MKG

Born and raised in The Bronx, Michael Kidd Gomez started his career in dance music at 16 and has never looked back. Michael, who is also known as MKG to dance club fans, landed his first DJ job in 1981. He quickly moved up in the industry, becoming a key member of the SOS Record Pool staff. It didn’t take long for Michael to realize his dream of starting his own company. Latin Sound Unlimited opened its doors a year later and soon the company represented the top Latin DJs in the country. At just 17, Michael managed his own company and did independent promotion for record labels featuring such well-known international artists as Ruben Blades, El Gran Combo, Oscar DLeon, Senora Poncena and many others. He also compiled the Top 12 Latin club list for Canales Magazine.

As a successful DJ artist, entrepreneur and promoter, Michael earned the nickname Kidd because of his professional work ethic, infectious sense of humor and ability to achieve so much at a young age.

After launching Latin Sound Unlimited, Michael turned his attention to new projects. He teamed up with Al Pizarro & VIP Record Pool to keep his fan base up-to-date on the latest club music. In demand as a DJ, Michael was a headliner at some of the premier New York nightclubs: Side Street, Le Fountain Bleu, Peoples, Tapestry, Garden Of Roses and La Mirage, just to name a few.

His first experience in a recording studio under the guidance of Pepe Luis Soto was a turning point in his career. He learned the ins and outs of production, including writing, arranging, mixing and editing. His first production Tear Shed is still a club favorite 22 years later. He went on to work with the likes of Paula Abdul, Sebastian, Laissez Faire, C-Bank, and Peter Fontaine. Established in 1989, his groundbreaking label MKG/More Music Records, released more than 100 singles in five years.

In 1997, Michael retired from the music industry to devote more time and energy to his family.

However, his love of music never left him. With the resurgence in the popularity of dance music and the new Urban Latin Sound becoming mainstream, Michael returned to his first love, music. He founded Metrostarr Entertainment Group, an independent production, management and marketing company representing recording artists, remixers, DJs and filmmakers. The company has also launched an Internet radio station, Metrostarr Radio, to showcase new artists.

His 30 years of success in the music business will be beneficial to these emerging artists. I hope to focus my energies and leverage my experience to bring Urban Latin talent to the international market and to the attention of major labels.
