Kast One

Born and raised in The Bronx, Kast One was exposed to the dj culture early in life. He lived in the building that overlooked the famed Cedar Park, where DJs would set up shop every weekend and tear it down. Once I witnessed the control the DJs had over the crowd and the way they made everybody enjoy themselves, I knew it was something that I wanted to do. Incredibly, thats exactly what he did.

Kast One began like most local DJs – spinning at house parties and making mix tapes for friends at school. It was not until Kast One reached college that he began to focus on reaching a broader audience. As soon as the opportunity arose, Kast One began to DJ a weekly show on his college radio station. However, the drive did not end there. The momentum he gained on college radio helped him secure performances at numerous other college campuses including, but not limited to, S.U.N.Y Old Westbury, S.U.N.Y Binghamton, S.U.N.Y Albany, S.U.N.Y Stony Brook, S.U.N.Y Buffalo, Long Island University, Hofstra University, Pace University and many more.

While doing a party at one of the universities, Kast One met DJ Enuff. Being very impressed by what he saw, Enuff recruited Kast One to be part of a new collection of DJs he was forming, called The Heavy Hitters. Eager for the opportunity to work along side DJ Enuff, Kast One accepted Enuffs invitation into The Heavy Hitters.

Once he officially became one of The Heavy Hitters, Kast One decided it was time to step it up a notch. He began producing mix tapes that have now become nearly cult classics. Such mix tapes include The Reggae Bashment Series, Straight West Coasting, I Got Next, and the On Fire Series. In addition to producing his own mix tapes, Kast One has done work for top record labels. Some labels he has worked with are Interscope, Star Track, Def Jam, Atlantic and Universal Records. Additionally, he has personally worked alongside artists such as Kanye West, Swiss Beats, Cassidy, Jae Millz, Busta Rhymes, on mix tapes and stage shows.

The mix tapes and newfound exposure also helped make Kast One a featured DJ on the New York City club circuit. You name it and he has done it – Spotlight, Home, Copacabana, Guesthouse, P.M, Lotus, Sol, Madison, Element, the list goes on and on, but it doesnt stop there. Kast has also been putting it down nationally, (i.e. Miami, San Francisco, St, Louis, Los Angeles, Denver, Philadelphia, Puerto Rico) and internationally, spinning hits in Japan, Canada, France, Germany, The U.K., St. Thomas, Jamaica, and Tortola, to name a few. In this day in age, it is very rare that you come across a DJ like Kast One. Playing everything from Hip Hop to R&B, Reggae to Rock and Classics his versatile and creative Djing style allows him to adapt to any crowd and ensures that everyone will have a good time.

Although lately he has been keeping busy while doing numerous parties, sometimes 2 3 per night, and traveling, Kast One has still managed to maintain a healthy profile on the airwaves. He has recently landed a spot as an on air mixer on New York Citys famed radio station HOT 97. Kast One is also a co-host/dj of a weekly show on Sirius Satellite radio channel Shade 45 called The Gomez Brothers, which airs every Saturday afternoon at 5p.m.
