Dave Matthias

Originally Dave Matthias started his media career in television production back in 1985. After 5 years of TV production he made a transition into radio. “Audio production & music was much more appealing & interesting to me. I produced commercials, radio station imaging & promos, edited music, you name it, I did everything! Music had always been such an integral part of my life I knew I was destined to do something with it.”

However, Dave Matthias’ career was definitely NOT  an overnight success story ….

Developing a thorough & comprehensive knowledge of dance-radio formats, in 1992 Matthias left a highly coveted San Francisco radio gig (of almost 4 years) at KITS / LIVE 105 FM to get closer to the streets. He started dj’ing various nightclubs where he quickly developed a name for himself within the dance community.

In 1994, Matthias became a Billboard Reporter, one of only 115 A-list dj’s in the entire U.S. to determine Billboard Magazine’s Dance Chart. 1995-96 brought him numerous nightclub gigs & residency on two different radio stations. Tuesday nights 10p-12a “The Matthias Mix” could be heard on the Santa Rosa, California PBS station, KBBF 89.1 FM. And of course, the highly recognized, highly acclaimed, “St. John’s Playhouse” could be heard on San Francisco’s #1 dance station, KYLD / WILD 107 FM Saturday nights 2-4am.

Matthias is responsible for the official radio-edit mixes of Armand Van Helden’s smash hit “The Funk Phenomena“, commercially released on Atlantic/Henry Street Records.

In 1997-98, Matthias did extensive remix work for the Hot Tracks Remix Service. He has completed 45 major-label remix projects with the Hot Tracks service. Numerous “Dave Matthias” remixes can be heard on this remix service, available on both cd & vinyl formats. Also in 1998, Matthias worked at KZQZ / Z95.7 FM in San Francisco. There, he was the stations’ 1st Mixshow DJ paving the way for regular mixshow programming heard on The Z!

In April of ’99, Matthias started a new endeavor, “CLUB SEXY” (and later named “THE GROOVE”). His nationally-recognized #1 Arbitron-rated dance-radio mixshow on Northern California’s KSXY / HOT 95.9 FM. “CLUB SEXY/THE GROOVE” featured the latest House, Disco-House, Club & Trance music in a continuous-mix format.
